Learn about the history of fire fighting in this replica of a 1890s Muskegon Fire Station. A 1923 American LaFrance Pumper Fire Truck is on display along with hose carts, hooks, ladders and photographs of some of the area’s most devastating fires. A display on the second floor depicts the living quarters of the early fire stations.

Hackley and Hume Historic Site Tours:
Lavish woodcarvings, outstanding stenciling and glorious stained glass windows greet visitors as they tour the homes of Muskegon’s most famous lumber barons. Built in the late 1800s, the homes are furnished in the highest tradition of Victorian Decorative Arts and include original family pieces. The Site is on the National Register of Historic Places and was rated by AAA as “one of Michigan’s best examples of Victorian homes.”

Measuring Up: an exhibt of 80 yardsticks from Muskegon County businesses is on display.

May 24-Sept 1: "The Three Servicemen Exhibit": gives a behind the scenes look at the creation of the statue accompanying the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington DC.

Take a tour through 10,000 years of history in the Coming to the Lakes Gallery which explores why people came to Muskegon County. A 21 foot tall mastodon greets visitors who will also see a fur trader’s cabin, sawmill and Great Lakes schooner. The outside comes inside in the Habitat and Food Webs Gallery where you can examine a dune, grassland and wetland and meet the animals that live there. It’s All About You! in the Body Works Exhibit where the focus is on how the choices a person makes affect their health and well being. Build a meal and find out how healthy it is (or isn’t) or try on a vest and feel what it would be like to carry 10 or 20 extra pounds. Visitors can shop in the Muskegon Mercantile after their tour. The Mercantile is located just inside the museum and is full of unique gifts, books on local history and children’s items

Throughout Impressionism exhibition, Sunlight in a Paintbrush, will be installed in the Cannon, Operhall, and Cooper galleries and will include many significant works from the permanent collection. More great MMA masterpieces will be on display in the Wiener Gallery. John Steuart Curry’s Tornado Over Kansas, Henry Ossawa Tanner’s The Holy Family, Joos van Cleve’s Saint Jerome in Penitence, and Lucas Cranach’s portraits, Martin Luther as Knight of George and Katharina von Bora, are among your all-time favorites to be enjoyed this summer. Watch for a new, revised installation of works from the permanent collection coming to the Cannon, Operhall, and Cooper galleries in the fall, following the conclusion of the Sunlight in a Paintbrush exhibition. Sunlight in a Paintbrush: American Impressionism from Regional Collections
This major exhibition showcases the story of American Impressionism through the historic core of the MMA’s collections, and to further illustrate the narrative, also features a wealth of American artworks from other public and private collections in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Underwritten by DTE Energy, CHASE, Community Foundation for Muskegon County, and the Roger and Peggy Schwer Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.

Early expressions of Ox-bow: A Haven for Impressionism in Michigan
Complements the MMA’s exhibition, Sunlight in a Paintbrush: American Impressionism from Regional Collections. Paintings, works on paper, posters, broadsides, and photographs selected from the Ox-Bow and Art Institute of Chicago archives introduce visitors to the early history of Ox-Bow as a school of outdoor, or plein air, painting and its impact on the Impressionist movement in the Midwest. The exhibition has been organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art in cooperation with the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency.

July 3-31: Fiber Arts Show: Featuring the emerging medium of fiber art. This popular art form involves the use of fibers and textiles that are embellished and enhanced using quilting, sewing, batik, painting, and other fascinating techniques. The result can be impressive wall hangings or sculpture, or more functional pieces such as pillows, quilts, and even jewelry. All of the artwork will feature original designs by the participating artists. Featured artists will include Edie Smith, a retired art teacher who has worked in Fiber Arts since she started sewing at age 11, Cindy Gillard, who combines fiber with beading to make intricate jewelry, and Sarah Jane Fellini, who creates beautiful batik wall hangings.

Oldest and only surviving American Great Lakes passenger ship. It was rebuilt and redesigned in 1940 by marine naval architect George Sharp of New York and today harbors the world's most complete Art Deco collection of Warren McArthur furniture.
