Outdoor Storytime I "Let's Go Camping" Storytime fun on the Library's East Lawn. Kids will hear campfire stories, sing campfire songs and follow strange "animal tracks" that lead to a surprise.

Underwater Science Discover underwater life with scientists from GVSU's Annis Water Resources Institute. There will be photos and specimens to see up close. The program finale: Kids will make Underwater Viewers to help them study watery habitats.

Outdoor Storytime II "Boats and Books"
Hear stories about boats, Sailors and Mermaids at HPL. After the stories visit a real boat, the research vessel W. G. Jackson, at the Annis Water Resources Institute. Grownups must accompany children and provide transportation. Stories at the Library, 2:00 - 2:30 PM, Jackson tour, 2:45 - 3:30 PM (The Jackson is 7 blocks from the Library at 7th St and Shoreline Drive.)

Z's Kids Club Traveling Animal Show
John Ball Zoo's Mobile Zoo brings live animals to the Library. To match our Reading Bug theme, critters will include a scorpion, tarantula, or other many-legged wonder. Zoo docents lead the program and let kids see the animals close up.

Bug Catcher Workshop
Kids can catch, study and release outdoor bugs with these 'scientific tools" they'll make at the workshop. Projects will include butterfly nets, an amazing Bug Vacuum, and a nighttime Moth Lantern. Kids will be able to take all three projects home.

Michigan's funniest puppet company presents "Welcome to Camp Living Room!" Spiders, bats, bears and other outdoor critters decide to hold summer camp right in the living room. Puppeteer Robert Papineau brings wacky fun and laughs for the whole family.

Water Critters
Study microscopic animals with Theresa Van Veelen, Life Science Professor at Muskegon Community College. With magnifying lenses kids will discover the surprising mini-zoo that lives in pond and lake water. The program ends with an Aquatic Critter Twister game.

Kids run their own booths, selling old toys, books & games. Signup required. Rain date Saturday, August 2. "On the Lawn" at Hackley Administration Bldg.

The Kids' Flea Market provides a grand finale for "Reading Bug" activities. Children will run their own booths (parent help is recommended) and keep the money they earn. A 50 cent price limit per item will keep things fun and safe for all. Rain date August 2. Sales ideas include old books, collectibles, stuffed animals, fast food prizes puzzles and craft items. Lemonade stand yummies are good sellers, too. Please don't bring used clothing or other items of interest to grownups only.

Bats of the World
See live U.S. bats, South American bats, and rare African bats with 4 foot wingspans. Experts from the Organization for Bat Conservation will tell about sound waves, bat food and other bat facts.
