The marble, mosaic tiles in the main entry of Hackley Public Library are original to when the library first opened in 1890! Unfortunately some of the tile work had been damaged through the years, though much of the original tile work remains intact.
In an effort to preserve the existing original tile work, as well as restore the floor to its original beauty, restoration has begun!
Fortunately, approximately 80% of the original tile work will remain in place and in good condition, while approx. 20% of the tile work will be newly put in, made to match with the original concept.
Marion Restoration, a company based from Chicago, has been working efficiently to ensure our mosaic floor at HPL is restored properly. Pictured above, and below with the next four photos, shows preparation work being done.
The two photos below show some of the tile work that has been put in, showcasing vibrant colors and shapes.
