Hackley Public Library is excited to launch a coding club just for girls!
We are an official host site for the international Girls Who Code organization. The club is open to students grade 6 and up.
In the club, girls will master the basics of coding like loops, variables, functions, and conditionals to name a few.
We will meet every Monday evening starting in January through the end of May.
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Please register online at www.hackleylibrary.org or by calling 231-722-8014.
Black History Calendar Contest
January 16 – February 7
HPL’s annual calendar uses student artwork to celebrate African American achievements.
Artists in grades 3 – 12 are invited to submit drawings. To enter, draw a picture from African American history and ask a trivia question about it.
The best pictures and questions will be published in a free calendar, which will be available throughout Muskegon.
Each page in the calendar will feature a question (maybe yours!) about a famous person or event.
Answers will be printed on the back. Don’t forget to pick up an entry form!
All submissions are due by Wednesday, February 7.
We’ll announce the winners at our Awards Ceremony on February 24.
Black History Coloring Contest
January 16 – February 7
Show off your best coloring skills! Young artists in grades Pre-K – 2 can take home an entry form or color one at the library.
Fill out your name and age, then turn in your coloring page by Wednesday, February 7.
We’ll select the best ones for our Awards Ceremony on February 24.

Start the year off right! Minecraft creates healthy brains by encouraging creative thinking, but more importantly, it’s fun, too!
Minecraft is open to the first 20 participants. Register online at www.hackleylibrary.org or by calling Youth Services at 231-722-8014.
2:00 pm Saturday, January 13
Stay cozy and warm. Drop in any time after 2:00 pm and build your own winter wonderland with Legos.
We’ll have plenty of blocks to go around. Once you’re done we’ll put your creation on display!
Monthly Makers: Ice Paint!
2:00 pm Saturday, January 20
The cold doesn’t bother us! Throw on your lab coat and experiment with creating new colors out of frozen paint.
Each color will start off as a frozen ice cube. As you paint the cube will melt and will change your artwork.
2:00 PM Saturday, January 27
Professional illustrator Corinne Roberts is coming to the library to share her love of drawing
and teach us how to draw our favorite Star Wars characters!
This program works best for children 6 years old and up. Adults should plan to stay if bringing younger children.
